Research Group on PDE-Constrained Optimization
- Professor
- Prof. Dr. Volker Schulz
- Research
-
The mission of the group is the mathematical investigation and
development of numerical methods for the solution of optimization
and inverse problems for discretized models derived
from partial differential equations.
In particular, these problems lead to large-scale nonlinear
optimization problems, where
the key methods being investigated are simultaneous
optimization methods, partially reduced SQP methods and
multigrid optimization methods. A particular emphasis in
this field of research lies on real applications, examples
of which are:
- Algorithmic optimization in Data Science
- Optimal control in chemical engineering
- Optimal structural design and topology optimization
- Shape optimization
- Inverse problems in groundwater flow
- Parameter estimation and experimental design in rheology
